PdCu single atom alloys supported on alumina for the selective hydrogenation of furfural

• PdCu single atom alloys (SAA) selectively catalyse furfural hydrogenation. Successful deposition of Pd atoms on Cu nanoparticles via galvanic replacement. SAAs are catalytically superior to monometallic and catalysts. host enhance hydrogen dissociative adsorption. Single-atom catalysts serve as a skilful control precious metals heterogenous where all active sites accessible for catalytic reactions. Here we report the adoption single-atom supported alumina selective hydrogenation furfural. This is special class an efficient, single-site catalyst trace concentrations (0.0067 wt%) displace surface nanoparticle. Confirmed by EXAFS, entirely coordinated Cu, with Pd-Cu bond lengths identical that Cu-Cu bond. Selectively oxidised also confirm EXAFS. These improve conversion furfuryl alcohol compared catalysts, they have advantages (high selectivity but poor activity) (superior activity unselective) without drawbacks, making them optimal green/atom efficient catalysis.
